Writing, writing, and the wrapping up of breaks

Ah, writing. I forget how much I love/need it. Thankfully, I had sense enough to stop after several good pages and the edge of a buzz tonight.

It's been a momentous two weeks. Newly married, with a name change at that! Rested and writing my fingers...well, not quite sore. But enjoying the rush, certainly. A few days of bliss left, with a weekend to share with R that I am looking forward to. Despite a deck to stain and mundane fluff, I'll be hanging out with my husband. All good.

This arrived today - just the right, not the blank page - nicely framed from Thinkspace Gallery:

"Owl Song, Molsekin Sketch #2"
graphite and pastel on paper
Rodrigo Luff, 2012

I really do love teaching - though not so nice as writing, writing, writing during break - but I often dream of the lottery ticket that will allow me to buy all the art I desire.

Ah, well. Again, all good.

Winding my way back to this little spot. The wonderful thing about a hearth is this: once well tended, it roars along cheerily enough. You just have to add the occasional kindling, stir the soup

Today, I drink coffee in a house between places. Between a "civilized" neighborhood and green woods were foxes yip. Or are the coyotes? Birds of all sorts in the bright green leaves - gold finches, tit mice, cardinals; hawks and crows; wild geese and herons flying over. My house. My husband's house. Our house of art, and plants, growing animals and growing love.

Along with spiritual practice - a daily part of life and meditation - teaching grows stronger, particularly during these times of rest! I have a new program to start this summer. I will return to the UConn grove to learn all I'm able.

Recent news, and many thanks to these publications:
  • Poem accepted for a Static Movement anthology
  • Poem accepted for Phantom Kangaroo, issue 15
  • Poem accepted for Star*Line
Artists who now grace my walls:

Okay, back to coffee, water, snoring cats. Hopefully more sooner rather than later.

The key

By Ram Tzu (Wayne Liquorman)
(1950 - )

Ram Tzu knows this...

Every time
You find an answer,
The question
No longer seems important.

Among the scented trees

He's there among the scented trees
(from The Lover of God)

Rabindranath Tagore

He's there among the scented trees,
playing the notes he has taught you.
Too late for embarrassment, shy doe
nibbling at the forest's edge,
shawled in deep blue shadows.
He's calling you. The flower of your soul
is opening, little deer.
The river of scent will lead you
deep into the trees where he waits.
The bihanga also plays tonight --
do you hear his more distant flute?
Black bees carry the moon's luster
from flower to flower.
The rest of the grove will bloom tonight, I think.
How he looks at you, young animal.
He shames the moon with his own dark light.

Let's bow down before the young Lord,
the deep blue flowers at his feet.

Where I've Been, Where I'm Going

Just returned from an excellent conference at UConn...revved up for teaching/art/life. All good. Excellent museum there: http://www.thebenton.org/exb_current.php If you wind your way through the permanent collection you will find a piece that feels something like the image above.

This Great Society

A new poem of mine currently appears in the February 2011 addition of This Great Society.

A “by peers, for peers” online creative journal, This Great Society provides a collective outlet for artists, musicians, writers, photographers, etc. Themed monthly, my poem "Dream of Being Everywhere" is published under the auspices of "Journey".

Enjoy!
