Midsummer/Middle Age Revieval

If I had the Way-Back machine today, I'd skip on over to Medieval France. Just for a day or two, mind, in all my finery. Granted, it would probably be safer just to traipse over to France for the day and head to the Cluny Museum, le Musee Nationale du Moyen Age.

Then I could see the following:

The Unicorn Tapestries, 1495 - 1505
(these may be at the Cloisters now in NYC - were lovely when I saw them in Paris)

Mary with Child, 14th century

Not to mention the stained glass up top... one of many beautiful window details.
Happy midsummer!

Going to the carnival tonight (on desolation row)

I would love to dance with a bear at a carnival - all the tiny white flowers and the circus tent in the background. This is for Miss Bear herself (aka the Malone) - it's dancing shoes at dawn.
The above work is by Emily Martin of The Black Apple.

In the jungle the women come and go... Julie Heffernan is a new favorite of mine.
Her oils are amazing. She knows how to lift up the curtain.

"Jungle Fever" - resin and wax by Rebecca Stevenson.
I would like this on a table in the center of my house asap.

Terpsichore

Terpsichore - one of the Muses. Her name means "delight of dancing".

The grave's a fine and private place
but none I think do there embrace.
- Andrew Marvell, "To His Coy Mistress"

But they do dance; yes, they do dance!

My work was featured in the City Paper write-up.

Renard's Threads

In Brooklyn and Philly, I created, exhibited and sold a line of embroidered and mixed media jewelry dubbed "Renard's Threads." The project was put on hiatus with the move to Atlanta, but will be revived shortly.

Above are some images of the work taken by my friend Bernadette, an excellent photographer in Philadelphia.

Mountain and Hawk

Today, I walked on Mount Arabia for the first time. The granite made pools of itself, filled them up with rainwater and red moss. It seemed like the ocean and the moon melted together. I spoke to the scrub trees like one in the desert. They answered as desert beings will - dryly and full of humour.

After walking down and through the forest, I asked a question to the skies. A hawk flew over. Is this automatically to be taken as a yes? Hawk wants me to trust myself. If one remains earthbound, the possibilities of life are limited.
